Where to Stay in Abu Dhabi

Where you stay in Abu Dhabi matters because the city is spread out. There is no single neighbourhood that is perfect for every visitor, so choose your base around what you actually want to do.

Corniche and central Abu Dhabi

For a first visit, the Corniche and nearby central districts are hard to beat. You are close to the waterfront, beaches, restaurants and many city sights. This area works particularly well if you want a traditional city break rather than spending most of your time at a resort.

Saadiyat Island

Saadiyat is my choice for travellers who want beaches and culture with a more resort-like feel. Louvre Abu Dhabi and the growing cultural district are here, alongside long stretches of sand and several high-end hotels. It is quieter than the busiest parts of the city, but accommodation can be expensive.

Yas Island

Families and theme-park fans should seriously consider Yas Island. Staying here puts attractions such as Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld and Warner Bros. World close at hand. Yas Mall, Yas Marina Circuit and waterfront dining also make it possible to spend several days without needing to head into central Abu Dhabi.

Choose location before luxury

Abu Dhabi has no shortage of impressive hotels, but I would choose location before counting stars. A beautiful hotel at the wrong end of the city can mean a lot of time in taxis.

For a mixed first-time trip, central Abu Dhabi gives you flexibility. For a beach-focused break choose Saadiyat, and for entertainment and family attractions Yas Island is difficult to beat.
